Sustaining Conservation through innovation
Established by power-couple Dr. Rudie and Marilice van Vuuren, the Naankuse Foundation is a charity dedicated to conserving the landscapes, cultures and wildlife of Namibia. Originating as a small wildlife sanctuary nestled in the Namibian bush, Naankuse is now a world-famous conservation organisation. The Naankuse Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary provides a safe haven and second chance for countless injured, orphaned and conflict animals. Wherever possible their aim is to release animals back into the wild. The foundation conserves the land, cultures and wildlife of Namibia, through encouraging participation, education and scientific research.
Utopia: A home open to guests
Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren decided to convert their home in Klein Windhoek into a Boutique Hotel after they saw the need to create accommodation for the guests that have been supporting their conservation efforts through visiting one of the Naankuse entities across the country.
The Garden: The garden that envelopes Utopia represents the three different projects of Naankuse:
- Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary: Established in 2006 by power couple Doctor Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren, Naankuse has become synonymous with conservation in Namibia. With “Conservation through innovation” being the motto, the Naankuse Foundation has made inroad with mitigating human/wildlife conflict through the innovative research they conduct and the animals that are brought in for rehabilitation.
- Neuras Wine Estate: Namibia’s most famous wine farm that was once called the Driest Vinyard in the world and now doubles as a wine estate and a unique site for wildlife conservation.
- Utopia Media Spa: Surrounding the hotel, this holistic health centre gives guests have access to a general practitioner, aesthetic medicine and an optometrist. Guests can browse through the local curios shops whilst waiting for consultations.
